AAA Grade Glacier Ivory

Supreme raw materials · Dedicated to the most precious you

Extincted Mammoths

Ancient elephants from the Ice Age, also known as mammoths, went extinct 10,000 years ago, and their remains can still be found in the Siberian ice and permafrost in Russia today. The ancient elephant was huge and was the animal that dominated the earth at that time, so it culturally symbolized kingship and auspiciousness.

On the other hand, because ancient ivory is a raw material in ancient times, it has high archaeological value and is a precious non-renewable resource. Only about 15% of the ancient ivory found so far can be used for carving so it is very rare and often highly prized by collectors.

Source of Material

The Yakutia region of Siberia is the only place in the world where nearly intact mammoth ivory remains have been unearthed. Ancient elephants lived in the cold climate of the northern hemisphere 10,000 years ago and had a strong ability to keep out the cold. Therefore, the ancient ivory is mostly preserved in Siberia Yakutia (the river basin of the Arctic Ocean) and Alaska and other places in the frozen soil.

Ancient Ivory Grading

Ancient ivory can be found in many places, including ice, permafrost, swamps and the wild. Ancient ivory mined from different places has different colors and qualities. Among them, the raw materials mined from the ice layer are the brightest and roundest in color and the hardness is the highest, the frozen soil is the second, and the wild is the last. Among the mined raw materials, the best 15% of color and hardness are grade A. The ancient ivory raw materials used by IvyC are all grade A, and the quality is guaranteed.

Distinguish Ancient Ivory from Contemporary Ivory

In general, ancient ivory has a different texture than modern ivory. After cutting the ivory horizontally, the ivory pattern is clearly visible. The intersection angle of the ivory grains of ancient ivory is less than 90 degrees, while the intersection angle of the ivory grains of modern ivory is greater than 90 degrees.

Since ivory patterns are as unforgeable as human fingerprints, and each elephant is unique, it is very safe to use ivory patterns to distinguish ancient ivory from contemporary ivory.
